Portfields School Governors

Foreword by the Chair of Governors of the Portfields Combined School:

Welcome to Portfields School! We are very proud of our school and we hope you will be impressed. This pack will provide you with some useful information about our school and give you an understanding of what we are about.

We sincerely hope your child will get the opportunity of experiencing life here at Portfields. As parents you will reap the benefits of knowing they are entering an environment that will be stimulating, rewarding and secure. Your child will benefit from a first class education in a very caring and happy environment.

We have been judged to be an “Outstanding” school for the last 13 years by OFSTED. Our educational standards are amongst some the best in the country and we continue to exceed government targets and national averages. We are proud to be a Beacon School, and as such are recognised as a centre of excellence and a setter of standards by which others are measured. A Healthy Schools National Award and a Sports Activemark are among our other achievements.

We have a vision statement “To give each child the best preparation for life in a changing environment, instilling in them the values for continual learning, tolerance and respect for self and others.” Everyone here at Portfields constantly works to fulfill this vision.

The children’s social welfare and cultural development are also a fundamental part of their education too. The children are extremely well cared for in a warm and friendly environment. As a regular visitor to the school I am always heartened to see harmony amongst pupils who are well behaved and courteous, it feels like one big happy family. Pupils at Portfields actually enjoy the learning process, and the results speak for themselves. I feel this not only in my role as Chair of Governors but also as a parent of two, both currently at Portfields. My sons love attending school, look forward to each day and enjoy telling me about the exciting things they have been doing.

Everyone at Portfields, the Headteacher, the teaching staff and the Board of Governors are enthusiastically committed to maintaining and developing Portfields to ensure that it continues to exceed the expectations of its pupils, their parents and the government.

I hope that you and your child will very soon feel at home at Portfields. As parents we have a key role to play in the development of our children and I am sure that you will want to become as much a part of Portfields family as they are by supporting them and getting involved with the many activities and events.

Matthew Carter
Chair of Governors
